Rise Up Construction

Michael Hall, director of Rise Up Construction in Kawerau, recently made the switch to Builders Academy. His decision to train with us was influenced by a trusted relationship: Josh Blaikie, the local Workplace Apprenticeship Educator (WAE) for Builders Academy in Bay of Plenty was a fellow builder that Michael had worked alongside in the past, for Sadlier Construction in Tauranga.

The additional support we offer has helped Michael’s two apprentices, Jackson and Lewis. Jackson was previously with another provider, while Lewis has recently started his apprenticeships with us.

Michael feels the more frequent six to eight week visits they receive from Josh

is helping his team. “Since we’ve been with Builders Academy, I’ve seen Jackson move forward quite a bit. Josh has been coming to site quite a bit to make sure Jackson is getting the right things signed off, at the right time.”

We continue to make strides across the North Island, and our guaranteed service promise of on-site visits every six to eight weeks is proving to be successful. These frequent visits are boosting apprentices' progress and provide bosses with essential training support.

Michael believes the more numerous visits help the apprentices retain their knowledge more easily. “From my perspective, the benefit of more regular site visits from Josh helps the apprentices remember what they’ve just learned. You do the unit on-site, and you don’t forget it all before the instructor finally turns up to assess you a few months later,“ he adds.

Josh says that being on-site more often also helps strengthen the WAE’s relationship with the employer and their apprentice. “It helps them feel more comfortable during verbal assessments and keeps them engaged, ensuring that we can together develop the best future carpenters in our trade,” says Josh.
